GrowActuary is a personal record of indoor cannabis cultivation: photographs, measurements, decisions, and what I would change next time.
Why GrowActuary?
The project brings together growing and an interest in actuarial thinking—record the assumptions, compare expectations with outcomes, and be clear about uncertainty. Tail Factor is an actuarial side project exploring estimates through insurance loss triangles.
How to read the records
The current grow dashboard brings together dated photos, journal notes, and public numeric readings. Temperature is shown in °F, relative humidity in percent, VPD in kPa, and DLI in mol/m²/day. A dash means there is no reading; zero is a real value.
Progress dates follow the grow’s configured timezone. The latest measurement date is shown separately because a current timeline does not imply a new measurement. The chart’s trailing average uses the last three available readings, including across stage changes; it is not a fixed number of calendar days.
Observations, assumptions, and outcomes
Photos and readings document what was recorded. Target bands, planner dates, and yield estimates are working assumptions. A personal grow with a small number of plants cannot isolate every cause or establish how another setup will perform. Notes distinguish tentative explanations from measured results, and completed records report only the outcomes available.
The older grows are primarily photo archives. The 2026 record has more detailed measurement coverage. That difference matters when comparing them.
Using the site
Start with the grow records, explore the tools, or read the Notes. The planner’s date range is an adjustable planning allowance, not a statistical confidence interval. Public readings can be downloaded from the dashboard.
